When I come here or when I bring friends, I always say, 'This place is hit or miss.' And it's true. There are days when you go in and the service is friendly, fast, the food is fresh. On those days, you can't beat Noma! The flavors are so unique and the food is super healthy.
** The photo of the rice bowl was taken after I threw sauce/sriracha on top and mixed everything. **
BUT! There are days like today where service is slow, employees take time to text message (in front of you) before making your food, and food safety issues abound. Like the employee answering the store phone with plastic gloves that then directly touch your food. Hand washing procedures? Or, for instance, I saw some kind of meat sitting on the grill (which was off) for at least 15 minutes. That meat was not being held at correct temperatures in an appropriate container, nor was there anyway to tell how long it had been sitting out. That can make people sick.
I come here often for lunch, and it's always great. The inside eating space is small, but most people get it to-do, so it's usually not an issue. Their bowls are really great, lots of fresh veggies. Their curry is also really good. Haven't had their tofu options, but their chicken is consistently good. Had the steak once, and it was a little dry, so I usually just get chicken. Really great place with great staff. Will continue coming back here!
Otherwise, this is our go-to place for something fast, vegetarian, and is fairly tasty!
I hate to give a one star but something has changed. Went in for lunch today and ordered the same thing I have ordered since the restaurant opened. The cashier said they can’t do that. I explained that I have been getting it since day one. The lady making the food said it was fine, but when I got the food it was totally wrong.
The service is pretty good, but sometimes they can be somewhat slow. This has led to lukewarm ribs before. The smoothies and teas/coffee are too sweet for me...but that is typically the standard the iced Vietnamese coffee or Thai iced tea. I still get the boba drinks because there are only 2-3 places in GSO that have it.
PLEASE take more time to manage your people correctly. Your facilities are cute but rapidly building up dust and dirt. The floors are gross. I love the flavors and the unique offerings I find here, but I am slowly changing my mind about Noma.
They were also out of the crushed pepper oil and we asked if they had anymore. The response was no, we always run out of it. What?
Noma is a great alternative to fast food. It offers vegan ribs, which I get almost everytime. My husband and I usually get the bahn mi and brown rice bowl with vegan ribs. The rice bowls come in good portions and I can never usually finish it.
A bit expensive, but you sure get a lot for what you pay. I have tried the chicken bowl, which is great and super filling, and the pho with chicken, which I found super salty, but that's just a personal preference thing. Overall, I would highly recommend if you're looking for a quick Asian place.
