REI sometimes gets a bad rep, but my experiences have been superb thus far. Excellent customer service is a top priority to me and I've received it upon every visit. My last purchase was "Smartwool beanie" that I utilize for cool/cold weather cycling. There are lots of choices of just about everything. My only complaint was that they didn't carry men's thermal cycling tights, but other than that, they had everything that I needed.
Staff is always super helpful and very knowledgable. The classes are also very good. Membership is a great deal because the prices are competitive.
This was my first trip to an REI. Maybe I've gotten spoiled by the more personal service at the smaller retailers. We had no offers of assistance. I wanted a thicker jacket so I could do some outdoorsy stuff this winter without freezing. They had only 1 that would have done the job, and I didn't like how it felt. Guessing they must be doing something right, everyone else seems to love them. But I was seriously underwhelmed.
Great selection of quality outdoor products and the optiin to join the co-op, only negative is they are on the high side when it comes to price.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff, who know the activities and interests that bring people to an outdoor equipment store. They are always willing to share their knowledge and experience. They carry great products that the store stands behind with an ironclad guarantee. Prices are a little more than some other places, but the customer service and product guarantee make it more than worth the extra money. I will be back, probably many times. I love just hanging out in this store!
