Great Bike Shop! I consistently go to see Dale and his team for my bike needs. They always have treated me with professionalism. I love the new shop layout, and it is so much easier to move around. I send anyone who has an interest in cycling to CDO. I do cycle a ton of miles a year, and teach a spin class -so the question comes up a lot. The staff will try to match the bike purchase to your needs, and do not oversell something that you do not need. For those new to cycling, please do not be thrown off by the prices or variety in choices. The amount of technology, Service, and quality surpasses anything that you knew of in the past. The important part to any purchase is the Service, and CDO delivers!
They just moved to 701 Hill street and Battleground Ave. The new location looks great so far. The staff is superb. They're extremely knowledgeable and won't try to over sell you on something you don't need. They seem to genuinely care about their customers. I'm new to the world of cycling and they have definitely helped me get started. So, support this local bike shop even if you can save a buck by ordering online, because the relationships they have with customers is worth it.
Great shop with fast, friendly service. These guys helped me get my daughter's bike back on the road. If you're looking for a new bike or have a bike that just needs some TLC then this is the place for you.
One thing I needed was a special spoke for a fancy Shimano wheelset. While I stock over 20K worth of spokes I did not have one of these. Oddly many shops no longer stock spokes for sale individually, build or even true wheels like in the old days. The reason is economics. It seems nowadays everyone wants high grade Swiss spokes that seemed to be priced by Senior Swiss accountants that must split the profits every time they raise the price. Couple this with several dozen lengths, several dozen styles, shapes, wire gauges and even color and you have a mess on a commodity that forces you to buy between 100-500 identical pieces to sell just one! Cycles deOre may not have solved this problem but they have invested in a custom spoke machine that despite costing thousands of dollars itself allows them to provide spokes in any length affordably. Bravo to them.
I scheduled a professional bike fit assessment a couple Saturdays ago, because the guy who does it was well recommended. After a 35 minute drive from my home in another county, I arrived only to be told that the guy I had an appointment with was not there, he had a family issue to attend to. He had neglected to take down my number when the appointment was scheduled, so nobody was able to call me beforehand. The guys working there said he would be in after a few hours, and asked it I wanted to come back or wait. I politely declined, as I had other obligations that day and it's not like it was a 5 minute drive across town. One of the employees took down my phone number and said they would have the bike fit guy call me to reschedule. He has still never called. This was my first time ever going to this store and now it will be my last, unfortunately.
I run a little bike shop and every time I visit Greensboro I make sure I visit Cycles de Oro. This last weekend the shop was hosting the Ferrous Foray casual bike ride, social with food and refreshments and a wee little bike show and swap meet and was the perfect excuse for a visit. Though the weather was a big threat it held off until we were finished with our activities. They hope to host these gathering as often as once a month. The shop also hosts serious races, centuries and bike events with a national and international footprint and local people are fortunate they happen in their backyard.
Well I found after careful searching they had what could be found nowhere else; the fabled 288m black bladed aero spoke with treble sized alloy nipple and magic rim washer. An exact new replacement. The price was unbelievably low as well. It was like my money was no good there. Their new store is a treat with new and old bikes woven into a lovely blend of nostalgia mixed with modern technology. I look forward to another visit soon but I sure hope I don't need another spoke like this.
My problem that day was that this common wheel (at one time it was) needed a spoke that could not be found in singles from the manufacturer or in less than batches of three ( $30 on Amazon) in the correct length even on Ebay! Well the DeOre staff gave me only fleeting hope in finding the spoke and special magic spoke nipple I needed as they claimed they never sold these wheels! It was then they saddled me with the task of a little treasure hunting, organizing, stuffing the tip jar and pushing a broom with the knowing nod of the hopeless quest laid before me.
