After they had removed part of the old shingle, Glen informed me that they will leave the old felt underlayment on the roof and place the new synthetic underlayment on top of it. I had assumed they will remove it and check that the wood is in good and there is no damage. He told me that most of the time if the roof shingles and underlayment are in good condition, there is no water damage and they leave the old underlayment. I googled it and found out that there are mixed reports, So I let him keep the old felt underlayment as it was in good shape and it is easier for the workers to walk on it compared to slippery wood. It took 2 long days about 12 hours per day to complete the work except a few areas. This was OK with us since it was very hot and they were taking several breaks. The work had to be postponed because of Memorial day weekend. However, there was forecast for rain so one worker came back on Sunday to cover up small left over area and the vents. I appreciated that.
We have recommended Hammer Time to our friends but cautioned them regarding landscape issues.
The work started early about 7 am, as promised. I came out of the house around 9 am and saw old shingles and black residue (form old shingles) all over the front, most on the tarp they spread and some on the grass and walkway. One shrub, 5 flowers and one landscape solar light were damaged. I brought these to Glenn's attention and also told the workers to be careful. When they were removing shingles from the back of the house, there was more mess on the deck and on the patio furniture. Also the satellite dish was damaged. Glen paid for the Dish net work technician visit to replace the damaged satellite dish.
Other than the damage to the landscape and satellite dish, we are very happy with the workman ship. The roof and color look very nice. I have suggested to Glen to more closely supervise the work.

I am very particular about our landscaping and flowers and take good care of them. Glen told me that they will be careful.
After completion, they did do a thorough clean up and picked up the nails from grass and side walks.
